Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem Central Library was started during the year 1991. This library was situated in the premises of the College covering the total area of 604.80 Sqm.

The Central Library was well designed as per norms and constructed for the benefits of Professors and Head of the Departments and Medical Officers and Medical Students. The Central Library was planned and the Ground floor was constructed in the area of 388.80 Sqm with all facilities. This building is having First floor which covered the area of 216 sqm.,

Features:

1. The Library is functioning with shift system, from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM.
2. The Central Library is having centralized Air condition facility.
3. The Library is having separate reading hall for the students and reading room for Professors and HODs with all facilities.
4. This Central Library is having 14026 books. The total No of Text Book is 9757 and 4269 Reference books. All the books have been classified and bifurcated according to the library Rule of Law. The Central Library books have been kept in separate Closed Almirah and Racks department wise, for student’s easy references and reading purpose in Central Library.

Computerization:

1. Computers are provided with all accessories (i.e.) Printer, Scanning Systems, C.D Provisions and Xerox machines for the student urgent and immediate purpose.
2. Separate Telephone connection with Internet facility are also  provided.
3. All the Equipments are being well maintained in the separate A/C Room. In addition, 700 CD’s are available for the students’ references and reading purpose.
4. Uninterrupted power supply has also been provided, UPS – system with batteries has been arranged for proper power supply for students purpose.
5. The government has given special provision for SC/ST students,and accordingly the library has separate books for them.
6. The government of Tamil Nadu provides  separate fund allotments for the purchase of Indian journals and foreign journals for student’s purpose. All Journals are being procured and kept ready for students use.
7. The main demand of the student was drinking water. Hot and Cold drinking water specialty has been provided by installing “Water Doctor” machine, which is being used by all students.
8. The, Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College was provided with Post Graduate Courses i.e., Medicine, Surgery, Pediatric, and Ortho Department, for which special books for PG students are being procured and kept in this library.

This Central Library is functioning in very good calm, quite and green atmosphere along with above mentioned facilities. The main aim of this General Library is to give very good service to professors and HODs and Medical Students to enrich their knowledge upto date for their bright futures.

Future Plan

We are also happy to inform that the Government of Tamilnadu had sanctioned several Lakhs of Rupees for additional building for the General Library of Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem-30.

As per the order of Government of Tamilnadu, New additional building is being well designed and constructed in the planned area of 200 sqm adjoining to the existing General Library. In which, 100 More new students can also be availed all new facilities in the ensuing New Building.

The New building is well designed and will also provided with all the provisions and facilities to the Medical Students.
